Fujian Special Forum in Shanghai World Expo was held in Xiamen International Conference and Exhibition Center this morning. NPC Standing Committee Vice Chairman Yan Juanqi attended the forum and made a speech. This is the only special forum which is participated by several provinces and people from both sides of Taiwan Straits.

"The holding of this forum will play an active role in publicizing the theme of Shanghai Expo, pursuing better city life, providing a platform for dialogue between different cities and promoting the development of the economic zones on the western coast of Taiwan straits." Yan said in the speech. The 2010 Shanghai World Expo is the first World Expo ever held by China, whose total investment reaches 30 billion RMB. It will be the grandest, most influential and fruitful feast in the history of World Expo. The Fujian Forum in Shanghai World Expo which was held in Xiamen right echoes and cooperates with another worldwide investment feast---CIFIT, which definitely provides a great chance for the cooperation and development of the 20 cities on the western coast of Taiwan Straits.

Yan also said that the competition of economic power in the future does not only exist between countries but between city groups as well. Therefore, our only choice to build the strategic platform for anther round of fortune increase and gathering in our country lies in encouraging cities to unite and develop in groups, creating strategic alliance of common development between different cities, forming a whole market by integrating the scattered and single markets and promoting geometric growth of economy. The rising of economic zones on the western coast of Taiwan Straits will become anther important pivot for the further development of the coastal area in China. It will also act as an irreplaceable bridge and platform for pushing forward the comprehensive Three Contacts across straits, advancing the common development of city groups across Taiwan Straits and promoting the strategic cooperation of the series of cities on the western coast. Harmony and co-existence are what we expect and it is reasonable for the cities on western coast to cooperate and unite together. The integrative development of the 20 cities in that area is irreversible.

Other important guests present at the forum include The Deputy Director General of UNIDO Dimitri Piskounov, Vice-chairman of Shanghai CPPCC and Vice Director of the Executive Committee of 2010 Shanghai World Expo Zhou Hanmin, Vice President of the Macro-economic Association of China Cao Yushu, Zheng Daoxi from Fujian NPC, Vice Governor of Fujian province and the Acting Mayor of Fuzhou Su Zengtian and so on. The conference invited six honorable guests to make speeches and the Round Table Conference for the 20 Cities on the Western Coast of Taiwan Straits will be held this afternoon.
