At the Beijing time of roughly 11:45 am on the morning of November 18, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao held talks with the US President Barack Obama at the building 18 of Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing, saying: “President Obama’s visiting to China is of great significance. As we all know, China and the US are two influential countries. Mr. President quoted one word by Confucius ‘understand the present by reviewing the past’ while exchanging with Chinese youths in Shanghai, which was quoted quite well. If we two countries carry forward the relations, we shall review the history of Sino-US relations, which proves a theory: if China and the US cooperate, it will benefit both, if fighting against each other, we are both hurt, and mutual trust promote advancement and suspicion leads to backwardness, so the relations of the two countries should be cooperation rather than check, dialogue rather than confrontation and partners rather than opponents.”
Wen also said: “we sincerely hope that Obama’s visiting to China will render the Sino-US ties into a new age.”
Obama stated: “the talks in the past two days are fruitful. The talks with President Hu Jintao deepen the partnership of China and the US. The Sino-US relations focused on economic trade in the past but have expanded to the areas including fighting the global challenges.”
In the wake of talks, Wen invited President Obama in the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse and held a working luncheon for him.
