Sept. 8, 1998, the Opening Ceremony of the 2nd China International Fair for Investment & Trade was held at Xiamen Fushan International Exhibition Hall. Minister of MOFTEC Mr. Shi Guangsheng, Secretary of CPC Fujian Committee Mr. Chen Mingyi, Secretary General of UNCTAD Mr. Rubens Ricupero, cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony.This fair attracted 6377 overseas business people of 156 delegations from 60 countries and regions. 42 Member units took part in the 2nd CIFIT. Hubei, Gansu, Heilongjiang, Henan, Shannxi, Hainan, Tibet, Guangxi, JinanCity, and CCPIT became new member units.
Two high level seminars, namely, Forum on Director Investment Strategies of Multinational Corporation and Symposium on China¡¯s Foreign Investment Policies, were held during the Fair.
Wu Yi, State Councilor of PRC, Secretary General of UNCTAD Mr. Rubens Ricupero, President of Japan Matsushita Denko Co. Ltd, Vice President of International Finance Cooperation Mr. Jemal-ud-din Kassum, Minister of MOFTEC Mr. Shi Guangsheng, Deputy Director General of State Development Planning Commission Mr. Li Rongrong, Vice Minister of General Administration of Customs Mr. Zhao Guanghua, Vice Governor of the People¡¯s Bank of China Mr. Liu Mingkang, Vice Minister of the Construction Mr. Song Chunhua, Minister of Labour and Social Security Mr. Wang Dongjin were delivered their speeches on the two seminars respectively.
The 2nd CIFIT had 1606 contracts signed with a total amount of 5.52 billion USD. The trade volume totaled to 1.053 billion USD.
