On the morning of July 2, the Ministry and the CIFIT Organizing Committee jointly held a press conference in Beijing for the forthcoming CIFIT, which is slated to open in September 8, 2009. Chen Jin, Executive Vice Chairman of the CIFIT Organizing Committee and Vice Minister of Commerce; Ye Shuangyu, Vice Chairman of the CIFIT Organizing Committee and Vice Governor of Fujian; and Liu Cigui, Vice Chairman of the CIFIT Organizing Committee and Mayor of Xiamen, attended the press conference. Vice Minister of Commerce Chen elaborated the on the CIFIT, inflows of foreign capital into China, and the nation’s outward investment.
Vice Governor Ye introduced developments in the macro economy and the new features and progress of preparations for the upcoming CIFIT. Preparations for CIFIT have been progressing smoothly, and the Fair will have the following major features:
I. Richer Content
In light of the emerging trends in the global industrial structure and focused on its two major themes of “Going Global” and “Attracting FDI”, CIFIT will vigorously promote investment projects by industry and give priority to property development, cultural creative industries, tourism, agriculture, and development zones. New halls will also be set up, such as the China International Property Investment and Trading Hall, the China International Cultural Industries Hall, and the Agricultural Investment Projects Area.
II. Sharper Focus on Internationality
To date, organizations in 58 countries and regions have signed up for exhibition at CIFIT, and the number is expected to rise to 80. More than 250 organizations in over 60 countries and regions will send delegations CIFIT, and the United States, France, Italy, Britain, Australia, the Netherlands, and Brazil will host “pavilion day” or other thematic events.
III. More Conspicuous Taiwan-oriented Features
The 13th CIFIT will, for the first time, host a “Taiwan Pavilion Day” event and set up the Taiwan Investment Projects Exhibition Area, the Taiwan Commodities Exhibition Area, and the Taiwan Premium Products Exhibition Area. It will also host investment project and trade matchmaking symposia for Taiwan businesses.
IV. Stronger Investment Promotion Functions
In line with the national industrial direction and in light of hot socio-economic topics, the 13th CIFIT will host a vast range of exhibitions, negotiations and conferences, continue to expand its functions, organized 11 dedicated matchmaking symposia, and further strengthen its industrial matchmaking functions. CIFIT will accentuate its role as a “barometer” for international investment and continue to boost its information release functions. For the first time, CIFIT will set up the Promotion and Exhibition Area for Products from Foreign Countries/Regions, expand the Taiwan Commodities Exhibition Area and the Equipment Manufacturing Industry, Energy Conservation, Environmental Protection, and New Building Materials Exhibition Area, to promote trade cooperation and further enhance its trade functions.
Mayor Liu introduced the logistical support for the 13th CIFIT. He stated that in view of the new developments, Xiamen has set out to draw up new measures in all related areas since the beginning of this year, Xiamen has formed a special committee to coordinate logistical support for the upcoming CIFIT, and that preparations are underway smoothly. He is confident that Xiamen has the abilities and resources to further grow the city’s convention and exhibition industry. Before concluding his speech, Mayor Liu extended a cordial invitation to media organizations and domestic and overseas business communities to join CIFIT to explore business opportunities and promote mutual development.
