The World Investment Forum is a biennial global forum on international investment and development issued organized by the United Nations. The first WIF took place in the African nation of Ghana in 2008.
The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has sent invitations to the heads of states in 25 countries in Europe, Americas, Africa, and Asia. Ministerial-rank government officials from 10 countries, including the United States, Turkey and Argentina, have confirmed their intent to take part in the upcoming WIF.
WTO Director-General Pascal Lamy, the president of the International Trade Center (ITC), the chairman of Citibank, the global CEO of Deloitte & Touche LLP, and the president of Wal-Wart China have also confirmed their intent to take part in the WIF.
Negotiators for the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) between mainland China and Taiwan will address the CIFIT as well.
So far, Taiwan businesses have booked about 200 booths at the CIFIT, compared with last year’s 128. They are expected to constitute a significant presence at the upcoming CIFIT.
CIFIT organizers will continue to host the Cross-Strait Economic Cooperation and Development Forum and the Forum on the Development and Cooperation of Cities in the West Taiwan Strait Economic Zone. Key ECFA negotiators will address the forums.
