E-commerce association sets up liaison office in Xiamen

The Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Convention and Exhibition Affairs signed a strategic cooperative agreement with the China Electronic Commerce Association (CECA) on August 20.

On the same day, CECA unveiled a new liaison office in Xiamen, Fujian province. Once set up, the office will be led by a special committee to assist in the growth of a healthy cross-border e-commerce industry in Xiamen.

As the organizer of the 2015 China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT), the bureau will join hands with CECA to hold a global e-commerce conference during the fair.

The 2015 CIFIT will launch on Sept 8 and draw to a close on Sept 11.

The global e-commerce conference will include themed symposiums, matchmaking events and field visits.

Confirmed attendees of the conference include Nie Linhai, deputy head of the ministry of commerce’s e-commerce department; Yang Guoxun, deputy head of the Advisory Committee for State Informatization; Chen Zhenchong, chief of the sci-tech department of the General Administration of Customs; Xiang Yuzhang, chief laboratory officer at the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.

Other participants include Jin Jianhang, president of Alibaba group; Sean Clarke, CEO of Walmart China; Liao Shangwen, chairman of Eastern Media International; and regional heads from PayPal, eBay, Qualcomm and Google.

In recent years, B2C e-commerce business has experienced rapid worldwide growth and reached a transaction volume of $1.6 trillion in 2014. Industry analysts expect the yearly growth rate to be maintained at 14 percent in the next few years, as projected in report by AliResearch - a research affiliate of Alibaba Group - and the business consulting agency, Accenture Strategy.

According to the report, cross-border e-commerce business will grow by 27 percent annually and reach $1 trillion in transaction volume by 2020.

The establishment of the Xiamen Area of Fujian Free Trade Zone has enabled cross-border e-commerce to thrive in the city. Many industrial parks have been set up in the zone to form a cluster of e-commerce companies. Bonded warehouses have been built to facilitate the growth of e-commerce business.
