A promotional conference for the 2017 China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) was held in Shanghai on April 26.

More than 300 representatives from the consul generals, governments, and international companies of 20 countries attended the conference. The countries included the US, Germany, France, Ukraine, Belarus, Poland, Japan, and Columbia.

A group of leaders came together to share their insights on how to take advantage of CIFIT to expand business opportunities, including David Aptsiauri, Georgian ambassador in China; Chen Qiutu, president of Fujian Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai; Hong Benzhu, deputy director of Xiamen commerce bureau; and Wang Qiongwen, director of Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Convention and Exhibition Affairs.

The 2017 CIFIT will take place from Sept 18 to 21 in Xiamen, Fujian province, with a number of networking events tailored for BRICS countries as well as forums to promote global investment in economies linked to the Belt and Road Initiative.

The exhibition space will cover 120,000 square meters, including 5,000 booths set up for thematic investment and industrial investment.

As the Ninth BRICS Summit will take place in Xiamen from Sept 3 to 5, one of the fair's major goals is to promote economic cooperation and exchange among global investors and members of BRICS – Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa – by setting up specialized pavilions, seminars, and networking events.

In addition, global investment will be the center of attention at this year's CIFIT. Some international investment forums will be held around the theme of “global investment under international reform.” Political and business dignitaries from across the world will give speeches and exchange views on  new trend of global investment. This year’s CIFIT will also include a series of forums on economic hot issues, ranging from e-commerce and cross-border trade to global mergers and acquisitions. The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, United Nations Industrial Development Organization, and other institutions will release global and regional investment policies, information, and reports during the fair.

Another eye-catching highlight of the 2017 CIFIT is planned around the Belt and Road Initiative, as the fair will showcase development of key industries in countries along the Belt and Road.

To mark the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Georgia, a large group of Georgia government leaders will attend the fair, and they plan to promote Georgia’s investment environment and business opportunities with various activities. China CEFC Energy Company Limited (CEFC), a strategic partner of the fair, has pledged to enhance communication with Georgia.

An exhibition pavilion for featured towns will debut at this year’s CIFIT to display planning and development of China’s featured towns, boost new urbanization and growth of the new economy.

Furthermore, a 4,000-squre-meter area for Chinese time-honored brands has been designed to present the brands’ changes, innovation, and preservation. Other activities such as forums about internationalization of Chinese time-honored brands will serve as a platform to push forward integration of traditional culture and global trade.
