CIFIT’s roadshow comes to its last stop in Central and Eastern Europe

Latvia in northeast Europe welcomed the roadshows for the 2018 China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) from May 22 to 23.

 

The 2018 CIFIT is expected to be held in Xiamen, Fujian province from Sept 8 to 11.

 

Led by Wang Qiongwen, deputy director of CIFIT’s organizing committee, the 2018 CIFIT’s working team visited the business office of Chinese Embassy in Latvia and the country’s Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Economics and Investment and Development Agency.

 

 

They urged the related departments in Latvia to set up booths at the 2018 CIFIT to exhibit their large-scale projects and come into contact with outstanding investors, while also inviting the European country to apply for the 2019 CIFIT’s guest country of honor.

 

The business office of Chinese Embassy in Latvia attached great importance to this year’s CIFIT and promised to support the working team attracting exhibitors and businessmen in the country.

The 2018 CIFIT will take the 1+16 into consideration and a series of activities are expected to be organized during the event.

 

The 1+16, short for the Cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European Countries (CEE Countries), was proposed by Chinese premier Li Keqiang in 2015 aiming to promote cooperation between the two sides in various fields.

 

Latvia looks forward to cooperate with Chinese enterprises in infrastructure construction, logistics and overseas warehouse, Shen Xiaokai, commercial counsellor of the business office, said.

 

Shen added that the business office will introduce the professional investment platform to Latvia’s related governmental departments and business communities and urge them to attend the fair.

 

Kaspars Ozolins, State Secretary at Latvia’s Ministry of Transport, said that the ministry plans to establish booths during the 2018 CIFIT and designate its chief representative in Beijing to attend the fair.

 

The transport ministry intends to advertise its country as one of the world’s renowned ports and supply chain bases and also offer information on Latvia’s large-scale infrastructure projects to the fair’s organizing committee to ensure fruitful results for their attendance.

Both Elina Branta, director of foreign funds department of Latvia’s Ministry of Economics and Valters Jekabsons, director of investment project division of the country’s Investment and Development Agency believe that CIFIT is a highly efficient platform for promoting economic cooperation among different countries.

 

Four booths are expected to be built at the 2018 CIFIT by the country’s Ministry of Economics and Ministry of Transport displaying Latvia’s special commodities and introduce its favorable investment climate, Branta said.

 

The Ministry of Economics of Latvia plans to evaluate the application of guest country of honor to prepare for such an application in the future.

 

Jekabsons confirmed that the Investment and Development Agency will organize outstanding local enterprises to attend the event.

 

Latvia bridges Europe and Asia with the best ice-free port in Baltic region and the most advanced combined transport by land, sea and air. Its capital Riga has opened two China-Europe trains, directly arriving in Yiwu, an export-oriented city in China’s Zhejiang province and Kashgar, an oasis city in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

 

The 2017 CIFIT witnessed the signing of 1,577 investment projects worth 532.7 billion yuan ($81 billion) and attracted more than 100,000 domestic and foreign business representatives from 107 countries and regions, 4,000 domestic and foreign enterprises, nearly 700 business groups, and 40 multinational corporations.
