The promotion team for the 2018 China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) came to the last stop of their global trip July 25 in Sri Lanka.

The team members visited local business associations during their stay in the country to negotiate their attendence at the upcoming event, including the commercial office of the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka, Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI), Sri Lanka-China Friendship Association, and the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.

Leading officials of the commercial office of the Chinese embassy said that Sri Lanka’s business associations attached great importance to the fair and they all hoped to advance economic and trade cooperation between China and Sri Lanka through CIFIT.

Ministers of Sri Lanka’s Ministry of International Trade and Strategic Development and the Ministry of Industry and Commerce plan to lead a delegation to attend this year’s fair and also to be present at the International Investment Forum which is scheduled to be held during CIFIT, according to leading officials.

They were also delighted to help Yunnan province, this year’s guest province of honor, promote its agricultural cooperation with the Asian country by popularizing Yunnan’s advanced planting technology.

Chairman of BOI, whose members are private and State-owned companies and their annual export accounts for 65 percent of that of the country, promised to set up a pavilion at this year’s fair.

Sri Lanka-China Friendship Association established a booth at the last three CIFITs.

Chairman of the association spoke highly of CIFIT and confirmed their attendence at next year’s event.

The chairman also expected to enlarge their exhibition area and organize project matchmaking activities at this year’s event.

The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce hoped to establish an overall strategic cooperation relationship with CIFIT and a series of activities involved in jewelry, tea leaves, rubber, machinery and other sectors will be held during each year’s CIFIT.

The highly infuential chamber of commerce is the oldest and largest such organization in Sri Lanka, and its more than 400,000 members come from manufacturing, agriculture, banking, leasing, tourism, shipping, service and various other sectors.

Sri Lanka, an island country in South Asia, has seen close economic and trade relations with China in recent years with broader cooperation fields, including agriculture, infrastructure construction, tourism, tea leaves, food processing and jewelry.

Last year, CIFIT facilitated the signing of 1,577 investment projects worth 532.7 billion yuan ($78.21 billion) and drew the attendance of more than 100,000 representatives of 4,000 domestic and foreign companies, 700 business groups and 40 multinational corporations from 107 countries and regions.
