A delegation from Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Convention and Exhibition Affairs in Fujian province led by the bureau’s Party secretary Jiang Meiyue attended the IMEX Frankfurt, a worldwide exhibition for incentive travel, meetings and events, from May 21 to 23.

IMEX attracts thousands professional exhibitors from over 50 countries all over the world every year.

During the event, the delegation visited chairmen and CEOs of eight authoritative international MICE industry organizations in hope of promoting the international and high-end development of Xiamen’s convention and exhibition industry.

They invited International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE), Society of Incentive Travel Executives (SITE), and Meeting Professionals International (MPI) to launch joint professional training on convention and exhibition affairs for students attending this year’s Xiamen International MICE Week.

The three institutions agreed to design and give training courses themed on exhibition planning, incentive travel and international meeting services.

The 2018 Xiamen International MICE Week held SITE China Summit and brought in SITE’s Certified Incentive Specialist (CIS) training for the first time.

Didier, CEO of SITC, agreed to upgrade the summit to Asia-Pacific Summit this year and will invite peer institutions in Asia-Pacific region to attend the event. Meanwhile, CEO of ICCA, will also be invited to give a speech about the development of MICE industry at this year’s Xiamen International MICE Week.

The Xiamen International MICE Week is a brand event that started in 2015 in Xiamen. It has grown in both size and popularity in recent years.

Also, the delegation met Martin Boyle, CEO of International Association of Professional Congress Organizers (IAPCO), to confirm the schedule of organizing an intermediate IAPCO training in Xiamen from April 12 to 14 next year, which is expected to improve local personnel’s ability in meeting planning and international conference bidding.

Gary Grimmer, CEO of Gainingedge, the management company of BestCities Global Alliance, thought that Xiamen has the potential to become a member of the alliance, and hoped that the alliance’s high-quality resources will help Xiamen attract more high-level international conferences.

The BestCities Global Alliance has 15 senior members including Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau and Singapore Exhibition and Convention Bureau. Its members maintain close relations and share high-quality meeting resources and industry development experience.

Additionally, the delegation talked with Carina Bauer, CEO of IMEX Group. Carina Bauer welcomed the arrival of the Xiamen bureau and gave it suggestions to help it better take part in the event.

IMEX that began in 2002 has been held consecutively for 18 years, attended by over 3,500 exhibitors and 9,000 buyers every year. Its organizing committee offers a matchmaking system that allows global exhibitors and buyers to make appointments in advance to greatly improve work efficiency and effectiveness.
