The 5th CIFIT was held in Xiamen International Conference and Exhibition Center, China on 8-12 September 2001. Member of Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Vice Premier of China Wu Bangguo attended the fair.

All China Private Enterprises Association and QingdaoCity became new member units of the 5th CIFIT. Member units showed their investment environments and business opportunities, and organized the enterprises with enough strength to go global to seek investment opportunities.
The 5th CIFIT firstly set up international pavilion and overseas-funded enterprises pavilion, 23 countries and regions exhibited in the Fair. More than 3100 business guests and 59 delegations from Taiwan took part in the event. The 5th CIFIT had 1027 contracts signed with a total amount of 4.798 billion USD.
The theme of the International Investment Forum at this fair was “China WTO Opportunities and Challenges”, which again caught the world attention. Member of Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Vice Premier of China Wu Bangguo, Chief Representative for negotiation on China’s WTO entry and Vice Minister of MOFTEC Mr. Long Yongtu, Deputy Prime Minister of Jordan Dr. Muhammad Halaiqah, Chairman of US Chamber of Commerce Mr. Steve Van Andel, Chairman of Sino-British Trade Association Lord Charles Powell delivered speeches at the Forum respectively. More than 30 seminars on special topics as “Introduce FDI” and “Going Global” are held at the 5th CIFIT. 199 VIPs delivered their speeches during the seminars.
The Governors and Ministers Television Forum on Economy and Trade was held for the first time during the 5th CIFIT. Relevant economic and trade officials impressed the world by remarks on all-faced opening-up and development via major media like Hong Kong Phoenix TV.
